Red Decorative Firebricks: Plan the Visible Brickwork

Red Vitcas decorative firebricks for compatible masonry

Red decorative brick allows combining the visible face with the appropriate refractory function. In a summer kitchen, however, its appearance also depends on the joints, cuts, and the arrangement of shades. Before bricklaying, lay out a test section in the intended light instead of judging the entire wall from a single piece.

Compare appearance with function

The manufacturer describes Vitcas red firebricks for compatible decorative uses indoors and outdoors, also in compatible ovens and barbecues. For this group, it indicates resistance up to 1200°C. The final selection includes the location of use, thickness, and method of connection, not just the colour.

Decorative brick does not replace separate insulation where the assembly requires it. In the design, indicate whether you are creating a visible layer near the hot part or an external finish. Do not assume the same arrangement for both places.

Lay a sample together with the joint

Check the actual dimensions and the side that will remain visible. Natural shade variation and slight format differences affect the arrangement. It's worth determining the placement of elements before preparing the mortar, especially at entrances and corners.

On the sample, take into account the target joint width. Choosing a few nice bricks without space for joints does not determine the dimension of the finished section. Plan cuts so that their edges meet the requirements for appearance and support.

Select the mortar according to the exposure

For compatible external connections, consider Outdoor Oven Cement. HPM Heatproof Mortar has different requirements, including weather protection. Randomly switching the material to a more convenient packaging may change the conditions of the entire joint.

Clean residues using the method and within the time specified for the used mortar. Do not cover bricks with any sealer without confirmation of its use with heating. Keep a few marked elements for later repair, remembering that the used surface may change its appearance under the influence of fire and the environment.
