Canopy Over a Barbecue: Flue, Drainage and Enclosure Materials

Metal flue components for a compatible appliance

The canopy limits precipitation but also changes the surroundings of the hearth and flue. Design it together with the grill, not as a later addition to an existing hot zone. Record the layout of the structure, the path of water, and the method of flue gas removal.

Drainage includes sides and base

Check where water will flow from the edges. Do not direct it to the hearth entrance, the worktop, or the end of the insulation. Protection from above does not exclude side precipitation and inflow from adjacent surfaces.

Outdoor Oven Cement is applicable in compatible external refractory structures. However, it does not determine the method of supporting the columns or the geometry of the canopy. Each of these elements requires a solution appropriate to its own task.

The flue penetration is a separate component

Requirements for the chimney and neighboring materials result from the device and the system used. Show the support, necessary clearances, and the solution for passing through the roof. Filling the empty opening with random material does not confirm proper execution.

Temperature-resistant silicone Vitcas is used for specific flexible connections. It does not automatically replace the chimney passage parts. HT Fireboard also does not independently determine the required distance of the hot pipe from the wood.

Check access after finishing

With cold equipment, practice adding fuel, moving the grate, and putting down tools. The canopy should not hinder the inspection of the duct or the disassembly of the intended parts. Also, check the opening of the space according to the requirements of a complete installation.

Keep photos of the passage before closing the roof and documentation of the components used. During later roof repairs, compare the execution with this setup. Changing the roof material or enclosing the side requires a reassessment of the conditions, even if the hearth itself remains unchanged.
