Replaceable Vermiculite Panel: Size, Retention and Inspection

Vitcas vermiculite boards for documented insulation applications

The replaceable panel should be prepared so that its later replacement reproduces the intended function. The mere possibility of removing the sheet does not confirm that it will be a suitable lining for every fireplace. First, check the material required in the specific location of the device.

Confirm the role of the board

Vitcas Vermiculite Fire Board is a lightweight insulation board for the described indoor or sheltered applications. The manufacturer specifies a temperature up to 1100°C. This is not confirmation of any mechanical load or exposure of the panel to rain.

Check the device documentation and the location of the component. The side panel, bottom, and equipment support are assessed according to different requirements. Do not change their material just because vermiculite is easy to fit to size.

Maintain the format and method of retention

Before removing the old part, record the thickness, dimensions, orientation, and support points. Examine the fastenings and adjacent elements. If the panel moves, determine the cause before making a new sheet.

Ceramic fibre board has a different structure and its own insulating applications. Do not consider both formats as identical substitutes. Changing the product requires confirmation of the compatibility of the entire assembly, not just a comparison of maximum temperatures.

Plan for cold removal

Check access after installing equipment and finishing. The retention method should allow for the intended replacement without prying off neighboring parts. Do not attach an additional layer to a cracked panel if it changes the clearance or position of the equipment.

Keep the template and photos of the installation. After preparing the device for operation, inspect the panel again after it has cooled down. Repeated material loss at a single point may indicate tool contact or a support problem; simply purchasing a thicker board does not resolve the cause.
